Hey. You’ve asked. So here it is. 14 accelerators to help you get that promotion:
1. Scoreboard: recognize the results you are truly expected to deliver. Exceed those. Not the little stuff, not the side stuff, but focus on crushing it in the areas that truly matter to the powers that be
2. Prioritize and say “No” often: see #1 above. Concentrate there. Say no to many other meetings and tasks that hinder progress. Laser in on on delivering exceptional results in KEY areas
3. Put trophies in the trophy case: doing your job only as expected just checks boxes. That's not enough. Create some additional, unexpected, unasked-for-wins that move the needle.
4. Get better at communication and persuasion: so underrated, yet so important to write and speak concisely, be clear, concise, convincing
5. Be awesome to work with: across the board. Period.
6. Bring ideas: consistently
7. Be a problem solver: don't complain, but point out problems and either bring solutions or oranize people to come up with solutions.
8. Eat some frogs: proactively solve problems for your boss
9. Build relationships: not based on kissing ass or networking for networking’s sake. Rather, build based on apporaching key people with an exchange of ideas, insights, ways to authentically help each other
10. Be on time and deliver what you promise: hey. Sometimes it’s the little things
11. Document: keep track of your achievements and results. Present when opportunities arise. Don't brag, just present
12. Know the biz, know the customers: deep insights here are a major differentiator
13. Be proactive: don't wait to be asked or told. Anticipate opportunities and act. Proactivley communicate problems and get out ahead of them
14. Ask: hate to say, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease. State what you want. Repeat it once in ahwile.
